Clippers made the dumbest inbound mistake in basketball history

1 hour ago 3

The funniest part of this play by the Los Angeles Clippers is that it was so bizarre, so inexplicable, that Clippers guard Jordan Miller was baffled by the call.

Somehow, he and teammate Kris Dunn had gone so far into an alternate universe that it took them a little while to even realize they had messed up.

They were taking on the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night, and at the end of the third quarter, the clock was stopped before an inbounds pass. They wanted to save time, so with Dunn set to receive the ball, Sanders rolled the ball out in front of him.

This is where things get weird.

For whatever reason, Dunn just trots away up the floor. Sanders is the only one near the ball.

And so after it rolls for a while, Sanders himself picks it up.

The whistle blew, violation. You can't inbound to yourself. The ball has to touch something else first.

It was a turnover to the Rockets, and Sanders couldn't believe it.

Here's the clip:

Jordan Miller & Kris Dunn with one of the dumbest (and funniest) turnovers off an inbound.

Jordan Miller tries to inbound the ball by rolling it on the floor. Kris Dunn never touches it, so Miller picks it right back up — instant turnover.

Truly, pretty much everyone who has ever played basketball at any level knows how this works. This is a mistake so silly that it's hard to even believe it happened.

But there it is, captured for the world to see.

The Clippers lost the game, 102-95. Alperen Sengun actually scored on the ensuing possession to end the third quarter, so the turnover cost L.A. two points, at least.

And now it has left everyone scratching their heads trying to figure out what they were thinking.
