Cleveland Guardians fans, your ace starting pitcher is close to finding his way back on a major league field.
Shane Bieber, the 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner, is scheduled to make a rehab start in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday with Triple-A Columbus.
The righty made just two starts for the Guardians in the 2024 season, winning both starts and striking out 20 batters in just 12 innings of work.
Unfortunately, that was all that Bieber could muster for the year, as he would undergo Tommy John surgery in April of 2024, and has been inactive since then.
Bieber was again trending towards a comeback earlier this year but suffered a setback during a bullpen session last month, and his rehab was pushed back a little further.
Bieber's 2020 Cy Young season saw him achieve the first pitching Triple Crown in the American League since Justin Verlander in his 2011 MVP season, scoring 8 wins, a 1.63 earned run average, and 122 strikeouts in a COVID-plagued season, which also saw Bieber finish fourth in AL MVP voting.
And with how the Guardians' 2025 season is going so far, the team could definitely use their ace back on the mound doing what he does best.
