Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics Preview

After dropping their season opener to the New York Knicks, the Cavaliers have won three on the trot to climb the standings. They most recently defeated the Detroit Pistons 116-95 on Monday. Donovan Mitchell led the charge with 35 points, as all the other starters scored in double-digits as well.

Jarrett Allen had 20 points, Evan Mobley had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, while De’Andre Hunter and Sam Merrill had 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Darius Garland continues to be out with a toe injury. He has been assigned to the G League’s Cleveland Charge to ramp up his recovery. Max Strus (foot) and Sam Merrill (hip contusion) are out as well.

The Celtics finally got their season on track with a 122-90 rout of the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday. The 18-time champions had started the season with three straight losses. Monday’s win was a combined team effort, as Anfernee Simons came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 25 points.

Jaylen Brown had 15 points, Payton Pritchard had 18 and Josh Minott had 15. Luka Garza came off the bench as well for 16 points. If Boston, who are without Jayson Tatum (Achilles injury), can get such consistent performances from the bench, it could have a chance to compete for a playoff spot.

Brown is dealing with a hamstring issue but is listed as probable to play in the injury report.

The oddsmakers favor the Cavs to get a narrow win on the road. While the Celtics were able to carve out a win against the Pelicans, it won’t be that simple against Cleveland. Thus, we expect Mitchell and Co. to cover the spread for a win in a game where the team total stays under 233.5 points.
