The Cleveland Browns had six players try out on Friday afternoon and among them was the son of an NFL Hall of Famer.
According to the league's transactions wire, the Browns worked out wide receiver Brenden Rice, the son of legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice.
Along with Rice, the Browns also worked out tight end Drake Dabney, quarterback Seth Henigan, wide receives Eli Pancol and Dymere Miller and tight end Caden Prieskorn.
Rice played his college ball at Colorado and USC and tallied 1,821 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns over four years.
He was then taken by the Los Angeles Chargers in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL draft and ended up appearing in three games for Los Angeles during his rookie year, although he only played three snaps on offense and 10 on special teams before landing on injured reserve in November with a shoulder issue.
Rice stuck with the Chargers until August of this year before he was cut loose on cutdown day. He hasn't been able to latch on with another team since.
The Browns are already pretty well-stocked at wide receiver with five on the active roster and two on the practice squad (they have Cedric Tillman on injured reserve, also), so the motive for working out three wide receivers remains unclear.
