Clemson vs. Pitt odds, prop bets, ATS pick: Tigers, Panthers battle to keep ACC title hopes alive

7 hours ago 1

Some of the luster surrounding Saturday's Clemson vs. Pitt matchup was lost when the Panthers (7-2 SU, 6-3 ATS) suffered their second consecutive loss last week against Virginia. Although that game was a look-ahead spot with the Tigers (7-2, 5-4) set to come through town, Pitt looked well on its way to handle business until QB Eli Holstein and top WR Konata Mumpfield were injured.

Clemson vs. Pitt odds: Spread, moneyline, total for Week 11 ACC college football matchup

Clemson opened as a 9-point favorite, but the line was moved up to -11.5 or -12 due to the uncertainty involving Pitt’s QB. The total opened at 56, before being bet down significantly to 52-53.

This will be the most points Pitt will close as an underdog by all season, having pulled outright upsets as two-point dogs at Cincinnati and vs. West Virginia. They closed +7 at SMU on Nov. 2.

Clemson, Pitt cling to ACC title hopes

Regardless of what happens at Acrisure Stadium this weekend, the winner won’t control its destiny in the ACC Championship chase. SMU is the lone unbeaten remaining. Miami is home licking its wounds following its first loss, thanks to a bye before a pair of games it will be heavily favored to win.

Clemson is in need of help, while Pitt, unbeaten entering November, needs an unblemished finish and a few results to go its way to get up off the mat following losses to the Mustangs and Virginia.

In addition to Holstein and Mumpfield exiting early last week, WR Daejon Reynolds got banged up as well but returned. The status of all three players entering this noon showdown with the Tigers remains unknown and likely will remain that way, given Pat Narduzzi’s track record of not divulging injuries. Dual threat QB Nate Yarnell would start on Senior Day if Holstein is unavailable, looking to run Pitt’s streak of winning its final home game of the season to nine.

Clemson bounced back from an upset loss to Louisville by pulling away at Virginia Tech, rallying from being down 7-0 at the half to win 24-14. Cade Klubnik threw three TD passes to increase his season tally to 24, but he completed a season-low 47 percent of his passes.

RB Phil Mafah produced his sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season and needs just 19 yards to top the 1,000-yard mark in Pittsburgh. Although it has faced some elite backs, Pitt’s defense ranks 20th in the nation, allowing just 115.0 rushing yards per game.

Clemson is 9-0 SU in its last nine road finales but lost its only visit to Pittsburgh 27-17 in 2021 and has dropped three of five all-time meetings.

Clemson betting news and analysis

Mafah has been a model of consistency for Clemson all season, but Klubnik has had his ups and downs despite being one of the top QB recruits in his class a few years ago. He told reporters he was physically and mentally exhausted following the gutty win over Virginia Tech last week but showed grit in helping his team break through after being shut out for most of the first half. Look for Klubnik to continue finding success connecting with top target Antonio Williams.

Pitt betting news and analysis

The Panthers had their perfect season ended in Dallas, 48-25 to SMU two weeks ago, and were unable to rally behind Yarnell against the Cavaliers last weekend, falling short in the red zone. Pitt RB Desmond Reid gives his team a great receiving threat out of the backfield, so count on him being heavily involved in the game plan, regardless of who lines up under center.

Pitt vs. Clemson betting pick: Points will be tough to come by

Clemson arrives in Pittsburgh after grinding out a win by holding Virginia Tech to just 14 points, marking the fourth time the Tigers have kept an opponent to 14 or fewer. Given the uncertainty surrounding Holstein, look for Clemson’s defense to have another big day and the offense to ride the legs of Mafah and Klubnik to another victory, keeping the team’s ACC title hopes alive.
