Lee, who was most recently the global lead for digital assets, currencies and market infrastructure at Accenture PLC, starts with the Canadian bank on Monday, according to an internal announcement, the contents of which were confirmed by a CIBC spokesperson.

“John will oversee the development and launch of new digital asset products and services, working with stakeholders internally and externally,” Giorgia Anton, head of payments at CIBC, said in the announcement. Lee will report to Anton.

The appointment comes nearly two weeks after Bank of Montreal hired Imran Ibrahim away from CIBC to lead its own digital-assets strategy. Lee has worked in financial technology for more than 20 years.
