Christian McCaffrey’s mom once ran blazing-fast 40-yard dash while pregnant: Ed McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey’s had a football career worthy of Hall of Fame discussion, but his mom might actually hold the honor for most impressive athletic feat in their household.

Ed McCaffrey revealed this week that Lisa McCaffrey once clocked a 40-yard dash time that would make even NFL linebackers envious.

And, he said she did it all while pregnant.

Ed, 57, explained on the “Side Piece with Melissa Pfeister” podcast that Lisa — a former Stanford soccer player — accomplished the quick sprint nearly three decades ago, when she was trying out for a local sports team while carrying Christian’s younger brother.

“I think Lisa ran a 4.7 while pregnant with Dylan when she tried out for the Valkyries which was the Colorado football team at the time,” Ed, a former Broncos wideout, said. “She did the combine then found out she was pregnant after so she obviously didn’t go out for the team.”

Ed recalled the tale after Pfeister asked him which McCaffrey would win a 50-yard sprint.

Ed noted Max, the oldest of his four sons, clocked the fastest 40 time in their family with a 4.36, but he nonetheless would still give the nod to his wife.

“Because that was like a weighted 40,” he said with a smile, “I’m going to give the edge to her.”

Ed and Lisa met while they were students at Stanford. They have four sons — ages 31, 29, 26 and 24 — who all played college football. Three of them went on to log snaps in the NFL, clearly thanks in large part to both Dad and Mom’s genes.
