Chris Wallace lists DC home for $6.4M mere days after announcing his shock departure from CNN

Veteran broadcaster Chris Wallace is saying goodbye to his Washington, DC perch as he lists his stately home in the Kalorama neighborhood for $6.4 million.

The CNN anchor, who announced his departure from the news network on Tuesday, is now also stepping away from the 1929 Georgian Revival mansion he and his wife, Lorraine, have called home since purchasing it for $1.1 million in 1997 — the same year they tied the knot, reports the Wall Street Journal.

(However, by Friday, Puck News reported that Wallace was the first network star to get booted from CNN as the network faces layoffs following low ratings during Election Day. He was reportedly offered a role of an analyst for far less than his $7 million salary and turned it down.)

Spanning roughly 7,000 square feet, the home is steeped in history, boasting four bedrooms, a grand entrance with classic columns, and formal rooms tailor-made for entertaining Washington’s elite.

Wallace, who previously helmed “Fox News Sunday,” fondly recalls hosting high-profile figures, including the late Sen. Ted Kennedy and Justice Antonin Scalia. Hollywood actor George Clooney, whom Wallace counts as a friend, has also sipped wine at the property.

The couple plans to make their Annapolis, Maryland, property their primary residence, where Lorraine operates a small business supplying fresh produce to local eateries.

However, they’ll maintain a smaller home in DC.

Reflecting on the neighborhood, Wallace remarked on Kalorama’s unique blend of power players across the political spectrum, where even Michelle Obama has been spotted on dog walks.

“Whatever the political differences are, or the feelings about what somebody said on television about somebody else, we’re neighbors in Kalorama,” he told the Journal.

The home, designed for both elegance and comfort, features an expansive living room with a bay window and an 18th-century marble fireplace mantel.

The second floor is more private, offering bedrooms and a cozy office, while the lower level is equipped with a gym and a guest suite.

Wallace shared, “I would go out with my sons on weekends and play football in the street.”

The Wallaces made minimal changes over the years, the most significant being a kitchen remodel where Lorraine, a cookbook author, honed her recipes.

“I was a very happy guinea pig,” Wallace quipped.

During his annoucement regarding his departure, Wallace said he aimed to pivot from cable news to explore opportunities in podcasting and streaming.

He joined CNN in 2021 to work on CNN+, a platform that shuttered shortly after launch. He then hosted had two shows on the main network.

“CNN was very good to me…but [cable] was never what I signed up for,” he said.
