Chris Simms makes bold prediction for Giants rookie Jaxson Dart

The New York Giants are excited about the potential of Jaxson Dart, but there's an understanding that he will have to wait a bit before making his debut.

Considering the offense he comes from at Ole Miss, which didn't ask him to go through full field progressions, it's fair to say that Dart has a steep learning curve when getting to the NFL.

With that said, Dart has some exciting tools, and they led former NFL quarterback Chris Simms to make a bold prediction on the "Up & Adams" show with Kay Adams, saying the rookie has a chance to be the Week 1 starter.

"I would not be shocked if it started off right away. I would not be shocked," Simms told Adams. "The amount of money they're paying Russell Wilson does not guarantee him the starting quarterback job. If Jaxson Dart is phenomenal through training camp and OTAs and has a really good preseason and Russell Wilson's just eh — just okay and doesn't look all that sharp— I don't think they'll be scared to start Jaxson Dart here."

While Wilson is not guaranteed the starting role, it seems likely he will be the Week 1 starter. The Giants didn't give him a massive contract, but there was clear interest in getting Wilson to East Rutherford.

Dart brings some exciting tools and upside to a quarterback room that also includes Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito.

Despite being on the hot seat, both general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have preached patience with Dart's development.

Anything can happen in the NFL, but it would be a mild surprise to see Dart emerge as the Week 1 starter.
