Chris Murphy’s chronic TDS has pushed him into treason territory

In the latest sign of how Trump Derangement Syndrome is pushing Democrats toward outright treason, Sen. Chris Murphy greeted a report that 26 Iranian ships allegedly evaded the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by tweeting “Awesome.”

The Connecticut Democrat’s repulsive celebration amounts to a prayer for American failure, and ultimately for the death of our troops as well as for abandoning the Iranian people who the regime holds captive.

Criticizing military strategy or goals, or even the prudence of launching Operation Epic Fury, is fair enough — but openly cheering for the enemy when American soldiers are putting their lives on the line is something else entirely.

After a barrage of criticism, Murphy wormily claimed his cheering for Iran was just “sarcasm” and his actual point was supposedly that Epic Fury is “a disaster” that should end “immediately.”

Murphy’s history on Iran explodes that pretense.

Back in 2020, Murphy held secret meetings with top Iranian officials during the Munich Security Conference; at the time, he claimed it was “a way to ease tensions and reduce the chances for crisis.”

Except the Constitution reserves foreign relations for the Executive Branch, and then-President Donald Trump didn’t task Murphy with building diplomatic back channels with Tehran; the meetings were obviously a bid to undermine US foreign policy, encouraging Iran to stonewall Trump in expectation that a Democrat would retake the White House and re-establish Obama-era appeasement.

Nor is the tweet Murphy’s only bid to succor Iran’s evil government.

He denounced Epic Fury as an “illegal war” at last week’s Soros-organized Global Progressive Mobilization conference in Barcelona; palling around with Spain’s America-hating lefty Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, he claimed the prez has put the United States on the “verge of a totalitarian takeover.”

Sadly, Murphy’s extremism puts him smack in the middle of today’s Democratic consensus, which favors a nuclear-armed Iranian regime that bombs our allies and murders its citizens over the chance that Trump may score a success.

Maybe if Democrats could finds something to stand for besides a toxic agenda of defeatism abroad and open borders and economy-killing socialism at home, they wouldn’t need to obsess about Trump and could even find it sufficient patriotism in time of war to side with their own country against the 7th-century barbarians who rule Iran.
