Karl-Anthony Towns has certainly not shaken the characterization.
The “soft” label is often bestowed upon big men with a preference to shoot from the outside rather than bang under the basket. Towns usually utilizes finesse over ferocity.
Chris Bosh shared a similar style and narrative. And it worked out just fine for him.
“That’s probably gonna be the easy, low-hanging fruit if you’re a jump-shooting big man, which there’s nothing wrong with that,” Bosh told The Post. “There’s also dunks and layups, I see [Towns] do that, too. You’re gonna get that label automatically. That came to me when I came to Miami, and I came to Miami as a slasher. I was a slasher getting 10 free throws a game. I wanted to take the rim home with me.
