After each saw their 2025 season end with a significant injury, two star AFC West quarterbacks will make their official return to action on Monday night, concluding the NFL's 2026 Week 1 slate.
Last December, Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee, a final blow in what was already becoming the most disappointing Chiefs season since he debuted as the starting quarterback. After over a decade of playoff runs, Kansas City missed out, forced to re-tool in the offseason by adding Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker and adding insurance behind Mahomes with dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields.

Around one month after Mahomes' injury, Bo Nix took down the Bills in the AFC divisional round — but Sean Payton announced a stunning, season-ending injury for his QB1. Nix watched as Denver lost to New England in the AFC title game. But with Jaylen Waddle added at wide receiver and another elite defense, the Broncos now enter 2026 with high expectations.
With the "Monday Night Football" stage as a prime-time backdrop, tonight, Mahomes and Nix face off in their respective returns from injury, eyeing an early upper hand in the AFC West.
