The Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers may look to add a veteran receiver to their rosters as training camp kicks off this week.
One of the top remaining receivers on the free agent market is Gabe Davis, and Pro Football Network's Jacob Infante lists the Chiefs and Steelers as potential landing spots for the former Jacksonville Jaguar.
"Davis is only 26 years old, so he should have plenty of football left in him, even after his injury. He would be best suited in an offense that allows him to maximize his vertical capabilities. That said, keep an eye on some playoff contenders to consider him on a discounted one-year deal before he signs another contract next offseason," Infante wrote.
Davis was released by the Jaguars in May after an injury-riddled 2024 campaign that saw him miss seven games due to a knee injury. When on the field, the 26-year-old wasn't very productive, tallying just 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns.
Though he is coming off a rough season, Davis can still be a solid contributor on a contender. The Chiefs, who could use another receiver with Rashee Rice likely to be suspended, would be a nice fit for the former Buffalo Bill.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes would love Davis' speed and ability to stretch the field. During his time with the Bills, Davis posted over 17 yards per reception in a season twice and served as a dynamic deep threat for quarterback Josh Allen. He could recreate that same success with Mahomes in Kansas City.
The Steelers are in desperate need of another starting-caliber receiver to pair with DK Metcalf after trading away George Pickens. Signing Davis makes a ton of sense, as the UFC product will be cheap to acquire, and Pittsburgh visited with him back in June.
Pairing Metcalf with Davis would give the Steelers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers a serviceable receiver tandem heading into the season.
