The Kansas City Chiefs are on the big stage for a "Sunday Night Football" matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, and that means quarterback Patrick Mahomes and company are front and center.
The team is following up on their own 31-10 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 1. They're already proving that they're a stronger and hungrier team than they were at this point last year.
But, a day before the team's matchup on "Sunday Night Football," one Chiefs player was slapped with punishment from the NFL for actions taken in the Broncos game.
The NFL regularly gives out fines to players for breaking the rules if what those players did meets certain requirements. According to the NFL's official website, the league "uses the fine schedule to outline the league's and the union's expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league."
Sometimes these fines are on actions not even penalized during the game, but after reviewing it, the NFL decides it deserves a disciplinary action.
Chiefs guard Trey Smith fined by the NFL
On Saturday, the NFL announced that it's giving a fine to guard Trey Smith for actions taken at the 9:50 mark in the fourth quarter. He was called for a "chop block" and has to pay $6,750.
As for that play, the Chiefs had possession of the ball at their own 34, when running back Emmett Johnson ran left. Officials called Smith for a chop block, and the Chiefs got a 15-yard penalty on the play.
When Smith pays up, the fine will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to help Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to help "support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game."
