The Kansas City Chiefs' offseason business has been centered around filling the roster holes and weaknesses in free agency.
The Chiefs have added some nice pieces on either side of the ball, but one signing caught the attention of everyone -- Justin Fields.
With the Chiefs needing a backup for Patrick Mahomes, who is dealing with an ACL injury, it was only Chris Oladokun on the roster as Gardner Minshew moved on.
And head coach Andy Reid detailed the reasoning behind signing Fields.
"Well, we snuck out and got a good quarterback to back him up," Reid said via NFL.com. "So, if he doesn't, you know, if he's not able to make it for the beginning of the season, then we know we've got a legitimate backup there that can go win games for us."

Will Fields start Week 1?
If you are someone who likes to have a wager, I'd keep my money in my pocket...for now.
We know Mahomes' timeline is to start Week 1, and that will be an interesting watch this offseason, but there is a chance Fields gets the majority of the starting reps in camp, at least initially.
Plus, the Chiefs aren't going to be pushing Patrick to play, and if there is even a hint of a doubt, it will be Fields who starts in Week 1 and possibly longer.
In short, the Fields signing is a Mahomes insurance move.
And many think it's a good one at that.
