Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had been through a lot of firsts in 2025, and at the end of the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers, he was dealt another one.
Mahomes suffered the dreaded ACL injury, which ended his season with three games left. He will likely miss a significant chunk of the 2026 season as well.
That is a tough pill to swallow, on top of knowing that for the first time in his career, the Chiefs won't be making the postseason.
So, all of that isn't great, but how is Patrick doing mentally? Head coach Andy Reid revealed all.
"I've had a good visit with him a couple different times, he's in a good place," Reid said. "He always feels like he let people down, but then he comes back, and he's ready for the challenge ahead, which is what's real right now.
"He's just got to get through surgery, wherever it might be, and then move on from there."

Chiefs facing odd three weeks
For the first time in the Mahomes era, there will be no playoffs for the Chiefs, and that means the final three games mean nothing.
That brings into focus whether or not the starters should play when there is nothing to gain.
Reid stated that if the players are healthy, they'll be on the field, but the last thing the Chiefs want is to have another injury happen to a key player and add more misery to the 2026 season because Mahomes will be out for a large portion.
The 2025 season was just bad all around for the Chiefs, and it ended with a whimper as their star quarterback tore his ACL.
Now, with three weeks left, how the AFC champs approach it will be a fascinating watch.
