The Kansas City Chiefs are going to need to upgrade their wide receiver room this season. Tyquan Thornton sustained a likely season-ending ankle injury, and Rashee Rice is banged up as well.

Even if those two were still healthy, the Chiefs were already being linked to potential wide receiver trade and free agent targets. So now, with some real questions about the WR room, it shouldn't be a surprise that they're showing interest in WR upgrades.

According to Pete Sweeney of The Kansas City Star, the Chiefs are reportedly showing interest in a former Super Bowl champion WR, but it's not Tyreek Hill. Instead, it's three-time champion Justin Watson.

Chiefs interested in 3x Super Bowl champion WR Justin Watson

"The Chiefs are among several teams interested in WR Justin Watson, per source," Sweeney reported Friday, October 9.

With the Chiefs on their bye week, they have time to reevaluate how they want to go about fixing this wide receiver problem.

Hill has been a player linked to them often this season, but it might make more sense to pursue someone like Watson, a more stable presence in the WR room who isn't coming off a brutal injury like what Hill had last season.

Watson is a three-time Super Bowl champion, winning a title with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the Chiefs, and two with Kansas City.

The now 30-year-old receiver has been in the NFL for eight years, playing with the Houston Texans in 2025, recording just three receptions for 30 yards on four targets in three games played.

His best season was in 2023 with the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, where he caught 27 of 53 passes for 460 yards and three touchdowns, all career highs.

In the playoffs, he has nine receptions for 120 yards, all of which came with the Chiefs during their two Super Bowl title runs.

Watson might not be the attention-grabbing addition to the WR room that Hill or a trade for some other WR would be, but he's a quality, under-the-radar option who could make a big difference for the Chiefs' depth chart at WR.
