Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes offers sound advice over 'toxic' social media

8 hours ago 3

Social media has changed the way we consume nearly everything in our lives, and when it comes to the NFL, players often engage on social media, and sometimes, it's not a good thing, and Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes knows it all too well.

Fans are not shy about sending a "DM" to a player, ripping their performance, or even being horrible in their language. They also tag a player in something they did during the game and tear them apart.

As sports betting is so prevalent now, people often go on tirades against players for being the ones who "lost" that person their bet. It can all be a bit too much for some, and while some players are still active on social media, others just stay off it to avoid the negativity, because who needs it, right?

And Mahomes, in what is a long-winded answer, gave his thoughts on social media and how he deals with it.

“It can be toxic for sure,” Mahomes said. “But to me, at the end of the day, I know who I am and I know the amount of work that I put in, and I can live with myself and the results. If you're putting in the work and you're doing whatever you can to leave everything on the football field, you can live with the results of a win, loss, or whatever anyone has to say because you know that the type of effort that you're putting in every single day.

"So, stay off it as much as possible, and then if you are going to be on it, I would use it as motivation more than anything."

Chiefs eagerly await Rashee Rice return

With the offense starting to pick up steam over the past couple of weeks, it won't be too long before the Chiefs get their No. 1 weapon in Rashee Rice back after he serves his six-game suspension for an off-field incident in the offseason.

Whether or not No. 4 will need a ramp-up period isn't yet known, but just having him on the field, along with a healthy Xavier Worthy, is going to change the complexity of this offense.

Sitting at 2-3, the Chiefs are in an "ok" position, and with the Detroit Lions up next, getting to 3-3 before Rice returns, yeah, fans would take that.

So, after an up-and-down start to the year, Kansas City is beginning to find level ground, and that might be a scary thing for opposing defenses down the line.
