Chiefs ignore Patrick Mahomes' needs in latest mock draft

The Kansas City Chiefs are facing an offseason where, for once, there is a lot of roster housekeeping to do.

With the futures of several stars up in the air, coupled with key needs on both sides of the ball, general manager Brett Veach will be in overdrive this offseason.

For most, the Chiefs' offseason plans have to start with the offense and at running back. Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt are free agents, and Patrick Mahomes needs a good run game to lean on.

However, for NFL.com's Charles Davis, the Chiefs are going defense in his latest mock draft, taking Miami pass rusher Rueben Bain Jr.

"The best move for Kansas City would be to trade down and acquire more picks," Davis writes. "In this scenario, they stick and add another pass rusher."

Is Bain Jr. the right move?

It depends on who you ask.

However, personally, the Chiefs do need urgent pass-rush help for Chris Jones and George Karlaftis.

Bain Jr. gives them an immediate Day 1 starter who can help push the pocket and take a quarterback's soul.

Yes, Mahomes' run game will still get attention, say in free agency, but Kansas City getting a young, fiery pass rusher to inject into the defense is what the doctor ordered here.

Taking some of the defensive load off the shoulders of the aging Jones and Karlaftis is a good strategy, even if there are glaring offensive needs.
