The Kansas City Chiefs enter their bye week at 4-0 and are coming off a huge division win against the Las Vegas Raiders. However, the most notable part of the game was the injuries to the wide receiver room.
First, Rashee Rice went down for the game, which was already a big loss. Then, Tyquan Thornton went down with a significant injury.
“Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton suffered a dislocated left ankle Sunday that was later put back into place by team doctors, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Thornton exited Allegiant Stadium on crutches after his team's 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. In the fourth quarter, he had to be carted off the field after he made a 55-yard catch that ended when he was tackled from behind by rookie free safety Treydan Stukes,” ESPN’s Nate Taylor wrote.
With the WR room taking a big hit, Taylor also reported that the team has been in discussions with Tyreek Hill about a potential reunion.
“Even before the injuries to Thornton and fellow receiver Rashee Rice on Sunday, the Chiefs had already shown interest in signing wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who is a free agent. Following Sunday's game, a team source said "we've remained in contact" with Hill and his agent Drew Rosenhaus,” Taylor wrote.
However, it remains to be seen exactly when that could happen if a signing does take place. Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, revealed that he could sign this week.
“I would anticipate Tyreek potentially signing with a team over the next few days,” Rosenhaus said.
If Hill signs this week with a team, it would be crazy to see him back this fast after such a significant injury, even with it being a year later. Specifically, if he signs with the Chiefs, they are on a bye week, giving him more time to be ready for their next game.
In a depleted WR room, one would think that Hill would become the favorite target for Patrick Mahomes considering their history together. While it is unclear if Hill will pick Kansas City, that is where many think he will go, and it could happen very soon.
