The Kansas City Chiefs couldn't pay both of their upcoming offensive line extensions.
Joe Thuney was one of the options, and the Chiefs traded him to the Bears.
That leaves Trey Smith. The right guard is playing the 2025 season on a franchise tag worth $23.4 million.
The Chiefs should look to extend him, writes ESPN's Aaron Schatz.
"Right now, Smith is set to play on the franchise tag for 2025 and then become a free agent again in 2026. We know that's not going to happen," Schatz wrote. "The Chiefs need to get the extension worked out and lock one of the league's top interior linemen down for the next few seasons."

Smith is a 6-foot-6, 321-pound monster on the interior of the offensive line.
He was just a sixth-round pick in 2021, but he has made a Pro Bowl and already has two Super Bowl rings.
Smith has started all 67 games in his NFL career with the Chiefs.
If Kansas City is smart, he'll get the chance to start 67 more in Chiefs colors, at least.
