The Kansas City Chiefs' 2025 season has been one to forget, and for Xavier Worthy, it hasn't been the sort of second year the receiver would have been hoping for.
After a rookie season that saw him post 638 yards and six touchdowns, it was expected that Xavier would continue his trajectory to become a star of Andy Reid's offense. But it hasn't happened.
Just 491 yards and one touchdown from his 12 games isn't what the Chiefs or Worthy would have envisioned in 2025, but all is not lost.
Receiver coach Connor Embree has detailed one surprising aspect of Worthy's season that many might not have known.
“The stats might not be there, but he's been doing a lot of good things for us that really don't show up in the stat box,” Embree said. “He's been a lot better in the room, he's trying to become a leader in his second year and take Jalen [Royals] under his wings and show him how to do things.”

Worthy a leader in WR room?
Normally, players in their second seasons are still trying to figure out this NFL thing and focusing on their own game.
But it appears Worthy is a team player so early into his career.
Jalen Royals, a rookie who has shown promise, is Xavier's understudy, and with the Chiefs' receiver room looking like it could undergo a retool of sorts this offseason, maybe it will be Royals who can take a big jump in 2026 thanks to Xavier's teachings.
It hasn't been the best season for the Chiefs, but finding small wins, like Worthy's ability to be a leader of the receiver room so early in his career, is a big tick.
