Chiefs begin ascension in latest power rankings

The Kansas City Chiefs are back on the Super Bowl radar (if they even left) after taking care of the Detroit Lions 30-17...oh, and Rashee Rice is now back in the fold.

After a tough start to the season that was riddled by inconsistent play on both sides of the ball, Kansas City has steadied the ship, and now it looks far more formidable than it did a fortnight ago.

The win over the Lions was just what the doctor ordered, and while the win itself was good, it was how the Chiefs won, with Patrick Mahomes turning back the clock, his weapons making plays, and the defense at its suffocating best.

For NFL.com's Eric Edholm, in his latest power rankings, the Chiefs are moving up three spots, to No. 9.

“Patrick Mahomes looked more like Prime-Time Pat against the Lions, delivering TD drives in all four quarters and limiting his offensive missteps in a clean performance,” Edholm writes. “Now the Chiefs are getting Rashee Rice back from suspension and finally will have a full complement of playmakers at their disposal. They should be 4-2 and could overtake the vulnerable Chargers and Broncos for AFC West supremacy. It won't be a cakewalk, but Kansas City isn't going anywhere.”

Chiefs beginning to flex Super Bowl muscles

Even at 0-2, not many put a line through the Chiefs' Super Bowl and playoff hopes, but some were jumping shit.

Having then brought themselves back to 2-2, many were confident in Kansas City again, but the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars happened, and that skepticism returned.

However, the win over the Lions showed that this Chiefs team is getting back to its best football, and that is a scary thought. Oh, and Rice hasn't played a snap yet, so we imagine the offense is only going to get better.

The Chiefs are at No. 9 in Edholm's rankings, and I'd imagine from here on out, they'll start their ascension back to where they belong - the top of the NFL mountain.
