Chiefs' Andy Reid offers interesting Patrick Mahomes injury update

Week 15 of the NFL season wasn't great from an injury standpoint, with the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes at the center of it, along with Micah Parsons from the Green Bay Packers.

Both superstars suffered ACL injuries that ended their year, and will likely take a significant chunk out of 2026 as well, with both players now focusing on getting 100 percent healthy.

For Mahomes, given that the Chiefs' season has ended with no chance of making the playoffs, it was likely he could have sat out the remaining three games anyway, but still, an ACL injury was the worst news possible for Kansas City.

And for head coach Andy Reid, he gave an update on Patrick on Monday.

“Patrick is going to go to Dallas for a second opinion with Dr. Cooper, and we'll just see, we'll give you updates as we go from there,” Reid said.

Mahomes ready to attack ACL rehab

This is the first time that Mahomes has had to deal with an injury of this magnitude in his NFL career, and we know that the rehab process is a long and lonely one.

With the Chiefs now in a reset mode as their dynasty officially comes to an end, Reid has no doubt that Patrick will be all gas, no brakes in attacking his rehab.

"I think he'll attack it just like he does everything else," Reid added. "There have been some pretty good quarterbacks that have had the same injuries, and they've done pretty well after they came back. He'll get after it, and he's got good people here to rehab him, and he'll be right on top of all that."

So, the Chiefs' 2025 season outlook was already bleak, and we imagine 2026 could follow suit with Mahomes likely to miss a significant chunk of time, plus the futures of Travis Kelce and Chris Jones all up in the air.

2025 was a horror show for Kansas City, and it ended just like it began -- badly.
