Chiefs' Andy Reid drops big Patrick Mahomes injury update

2 hours ago 3

It is no secret that all eyes will be on Patrick Mahomes as the Kansas City Chiefs begin their voluntary workouts this offseason.

Mahomes is coming off a torn ACL and has made it clear he wants to be the Week 1 starter, but to do that, he will need at least a month, if not more, of work during training camp, so Patrick is in a race against time.

But we know the Chiefs will be cautious with Mahomes as they don't want any setbacks in his recovery.

And as the Chiefs began their voluntary workouts, he detailed how Mahomes is progressing.

"He goes to the meetings, he can lift, do all of that, rehab, that's the phase he's in right now," Reid said. "We'll just see kind of play it by ear, see where he's at, he's doing great, but we've just got to be smart with this thing."

Mahomes working towards Week 1 goal

Going by Reid's comments, Mahomes is doing everything he can at this early part of the offseason.

In meetings, working out and rehabbing his knee, so it doesn't sound like he'll be missing too much, and even when healthy, Mahomes likely didn't do too much of the offseason program anyway.

But it appears No. 15 is in a good spot with his recovery, and the Chiefs will want to keep it that way as the Week 1 target for Patrick looms as the ideal return date.

In truth, it could be closer to Week 4 or Week 5, but Mahomes has made it clear he wants to start Week 1.

He's off to a good start, but it's a long offseason, and Reid won't be putting No. 15 at risk.
