The NBA has been filled with fantastic players over the years, headlined by the ones who win the MVP award. Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are the most recent players to have won the award. SGA is once again the favorite to win this year despite some people chasing him.
This year, the Oklahoma City Thunder are the best team in the league. They are the defending champions who are doing a fantastic job of maintaining their spot atop the NBA. As the best player of the Thunder, SGA is under pressure, and he is once again stepping up, as shown in his MVP campaign.
Holmgren believes no one comes close to SGA's MVP campaign
As the best player for the Thunder, Gilgeous-Alexander has shown all types of positive qualities. Most people know him for his natural ability to score, which is found in his ability to score at all three levels. He is also a good defender, which is rare to see with superstar guards.
At the same time, Gilgeous-Alexander's playmaking ability is overlooked at times. He is one of the most talented guards in the league, as he made sure to become the Thunder's lead playmaker who can maximize everyone else on the roster.

Despite all of SGA's strengths, there are many more great players in the league. Recently, Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has been on a tear, averaging 40+ points in this recent stretch. Combine that with the Lakers climbing the Western Conference standings, and people think he has a chance to compete for the MVP.
The same could be said about San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama, who is yet another MVP candidate. However, if you ask Chet Holmgren, he believes that SGA is the clear-cut MVP.
"I don't think I could, I don't think it's close enough. I think Shai is the runaway... I mean, man, we got such a great league, there are some wild names. We got a lot of great people making it happen," Holmgren said on The Arena about SGA's MVP campaign.
The MVP campaigns across the league are getting heated, but the Thunder's players are all confident in their superstar winning the award again. It will be the second year in a row, and it will be much deserved if he ends up winning it again.
