Chelsea target new defender from Premier League rivals but face one major hurdle

6 hours ago 1

Ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, Chelsea are on a mission to strengthen a number of positions in their bid to try and mount a Premier League title challenge next season.

One area in particular that the Blues are looking to bolster is at left-back, where they are looking for cover for Marc Cucurella. Though the Spaniard has been in fine form this season, there is not too much cover for him should he pick up an untimely injury.

Enzo Maresca’s team are said to be fans of Milos Kerkez, but it looks like the 21-year-old is another Bournemouth player they will miss out on.

According to CaughtOffside, the club have made contact over signing Kerkez in their bid to strengthen in the left-back position.

However, the outlet claims that Kerkez only wants to join Liverpool in a blow to Chelsea. The Hungary international has impressed at Bournemouth this season, proving to be a real threat on the left flank.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Chelsea are interested in him, but it looks like they will lose out in the battle to Liverpool.

What Kerkez’s teammate had to say about him

On the back of an impressive season, Kerkez has left a lasting impression on his teammates who have nothing but praise for the defender.

Speaking to the Daily Echo about Kerzkez, his teammate, Marcus Tavernier said, “He’s a mad man! He’s great, I love that guy to pieces. He brings a lot of energy to the team when it’s quiet and stuff. He has come into the team and been great. I’m just hoping he can continue his form and continue playing well.”

Despite how good Cucurella has been for Chelsea this season, Enzo Maresca cannot go one more season without having an alternative left-back. Though Chelsea are interested in signing Kerkez, Liverpool seem like the favourites to land the defender.
