Chelsea's transfer window might just be heating up, and no, we’re not talking about another 20-year-old from South America.
The Blues are now in discussions to sign Brighton's Brazilian forward Joao Pedro, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Head coach Enzo Maresca is already working with a long to-do list this summer. After signing Liam Delap and closing in on Jamie Gittens, Chelsea now seem to have shifted focus to a more experienced name — someone who knows the Premier League well and knows where the net is. Enter Joao Pedro.
Romano revealed on his YouTube channel, “He [Joao Pedro] remains a player of interest, and they are having conversations because they like him and are following closely.” Straight from the source.
🚨 Chelsea and Newcastle both remain involved in João Pedro race.
◉ Sancho and Fenerbahçe, nothing serious.
◉ Arsenal not in panic for Mosquera negotiations + winger options.
◉ Man United keep working for Mbeumo.
Pedro had a solid 2024/25 campaign at Brighton, notching ten league goals and 6 assists while showing the sort of versatility Chelsea are craving up front.
With Joao Felix’s loan spell over and questions hanging over Christopher Nkunku’s role, the Blues are actively scouting forwards who can cover multiple attacking positions.

And it’s not just about filling spots. It’s about finding the right balance.
With young Brazilian Estevao Willian arriving and expected to play in the No. 10 role, Chelsea are looking for someone who brings Premier League readiness — and Pedro fits the bill like a well-placed through ball.
Clubs in race to sign Joao Pedro
Chelsea, however, are not alone in this pursuit. Newcastle United have already made their move — a bid close to £50 million, which was turned down by Brighton. That hasn’t ended the chase though, as talks are still ongoing between the two clubs.
Pedro’s friendship with Bruno Guimaraes has added weight to Newcastle’s pitch. But sources suggest Pedro is only interested in a club where he can be the first-choice striker — a factor that could sway the deal either way. At Chelsea, that spot may still be up for grabs.
Brighton, meanwhile, are reportedly holding out for a figure around £60 million. For Chelsea, who’ve already broken the £45 million barrier for Gittens, adding another major attacking name would only thicken the transfer plot.
So while Chelsea fans are used to hearing about young talents from Brazil or Bundesliga bargains, this one has real Premier League spice.
