Chelsea record vs. PSG: Head-to-head matchups of 2025 Club World Cup final opponents, all-time results

9 hours ago 1

As expected, two European giants met in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final as Premier League side Chelsea faced French behemoths Paris Saint-Germain.

While the two clubs are from the same continent and both compete at the highest level in the UEFA Champions League, there is still minimal history between them. They have not met for almost a decade, and as such, memories will be made in this match.

It's not often that two of Europe's biggest clubs face off, and every matchup is of the highest importance.

The Sporting News details the all-time records between Chelsea and PSG, which took a turn with a shock result at MetLife Stadium.

Chelsea vs. PSG head-to-head record

Chelsea and PSG have met nine times in history, with the Club World Cup final ending a nine-year hiatus.

Through those games, Chelsea have won three, PSG have won three, and they have drawn three, making the all-time history between these two clubs dead even. In those games, Chelsea have scored 14 goals while PSG have logged 10.

Prior to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final, all eight matchups between Chelsea and PSG had come in the UEFA Champions League.

All prior meetings between Chelsea and PSG in history

Chelsea stunned the freshly-crowned European champions with a dominant 3-0 win in New Jersey to lift the Club World Cup. Joao Pedro completed the scoring before halftime after a Cole Palmer brace.

The previous meeting was in 2016, when PSG beat Chelsea 2-1 in both legs of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 matchup, advancing 4-2 on aggregate.

Across those two games from February and March of 2016, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored two of PSG's four goals while assisting another. Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot scored the other two for PSG, with Angel Di Maria logging two assists. Chelsea's two goals came from Diego Costa and John Obi Mikel in defeat.

That matchup marked the last of three consecutive meetings in the Champions League knockout stages from 2014-2016. While PSG advanced convincingly in that most recent tie, Chelsea had moved on in the previous two, both thanks to the now-defunct away goals rule.

The first-ever meeting between these two sides came in 2004 when they met twice in the group stage, with Chelsea winning the initial game in France before playing to a scoreless draw in the return fixture.
