Chelsea chase PSG star to solve long-standing No.1 problem

Chelsea’s aggressive summer rebuild is gaining serious momentum ahead of the 2025–26 season, with manager Enzo Maresca targeting upgrades across all areas of the pitch.

After lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League, the Blues have wasted no time reforming the squad to match Maresca’s philosophy

They began by activating Liam Delap’s £30m [$40m] release clause after he impressed at Ipswich.

Then came 20-year-old midfielder Dario Essugo, signed from Sporting CP for £18.5m [$25m], whose loan spell at Las Palmas earned praise for maturity beyond his years.

Joao Pedro, signed for £60m [$81m] from Brighton, joined during the Club World Cup and brought flair to a forward line that needed imagination.

Just days later, Chelsea completed the £55m [$74m] signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, a winger who had already been spotted celebrating on the pitch during their quarterfinal win over Palmeiras.

The club also signed defender Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg on an eight-year deal, a show of trust in long-term development.

Future stars Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez have already signed pre-agreements and are set to arrive in July 2025.

Chelsea now wants PSG star

Chelsea are still searching for a solution to a problem that has troubled them for over a year. The Blues are now targeting a reliable first-choice goalkeeper.

Last season, both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jörgensen shared time between the posts, but neither could deliver the consistency or authority needed at the top level.

Now, as reported by L’Équipe, Chelsea have turned their attention to PSG's current goalkeeper, whose contract talks have stalled with a year remaining.

The Italian international is expected to delay any decision until after Sunday (July 13) Club World Cup final, even though PSG have already made a renewal offer.

The Blues are well aware the deal won't be easy or cheap, especially since the goalkeeper reportedly earns close to £734,000 [$991,000] a week before bonuses.

But with both Manchester clubs also monitoring the situation, the Blues could be ready to act quickly if they believe he can finally fix their ongoing struggles in goal.
