‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ Stars Tease ‘Big Bang Theory’ Easter Eggs
Our whole universe was in a hot dense state. Then, nearly 20 years ago, expansion started, wait.
Because while Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki and the rest of their castmates all had credits to their name before being cast on the CBS comedy, it all truly started with The Big Bang Theory (bang).
"I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career," three-time Emmy nominee Cuoco told People of her stretch as aspiring actress and Cheesecake Factory waitress Penny. "I owe a lot to that character, to that show."
And before she and the rest of the gang signed off in 2019, she added, "It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I've ever had."
It's a statement that might earn a "bazinga!" from Parsons, who recently shared that during his decade-plus as punctilious theoretical physicist Sheldon Cooper he "was not happy."
"I look back now and realize that there were many ways, at some of the best moments of my life, I was miserable," he explained on the July 13 episode of the All Out with Jon Dean podcast, discussing how much he stressed over his performance. "I felt that there was so many plates I was supposed to be keeping in the air and that the success and the good things of life that were happening were only due to this overworking discipline."
So, no, it is unlikely he'll be claiming his spot on HBO Max's newly released spinoff Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Dropping July 23, the series sees Kevin Sussman's titular comic book store owner try to, you know, after he breaks a device crafted by Sheldon and fellow scientist Leonard Hofstadter (Galecki).
But it seems Parsons is unlikely to come knock, knock, knocking. As the Titanique actor admitted on the April 17 episode of The View, "I don’t believe I would do a reboot."

That's not to say other former costars won't help come unravel the mystery.
In addition to Lauren Lapkus (Stuart's romantic interest Denise), Brian Posehn (geologist Bert Kibbler) and John Ross Bowie (physicist Barry Kripke) rounding out the cast, there will be "lots of cameos," Lapkus promised in an exclusive interview with E! News, adding, "there's a bunch of Easter eggs within the show that I think if you're a fan, you'll catch all these little things."
And, holy crap on a cracker, it seems like Cuoco is down to eventually make the trip back to Pasadena, telling People back in 2024, "I would absolutely reprise that role, 100 percent."
Though we'll have to wait for a glimpse at Penny's mom life on Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, we're well-apprised on Cuoco's, The Flight Attendant actress currently expecting her second baby with fiancé Tom Pelphrey.

Jim Parsons
Jim Parsons captured the hearts of The Big Bang Theory viewers around the world for his portrayal of finnicky physicist Sheldon Cooper, winning four Emmys and a Golden Globe in the process. In October 2018, Forbes announced that Parsons was the highest-paid TV actor in the world, earning just over $1 million per episode. Bazinga!
Following the end of TBBT, Parsons starred in The Boys in the Band (both the Tony Award-winning stage version and its 2020 film adaptation) and Ryan Murphy's Netflix series, Hollywood, earning another Emmy nomination.
In addition to Broadway runs in Mother Play, Our Town and Titanique, he also served as the narrator and the executive producer of the prequel spinoff, Young Sheldon from 2017 to 2024, though he's since indicated he has no interest in returning to his spot.
Noting how "stressful and miserable" it was to devote himself wholly to the role, the actor, wed to film producer Todd Spiewak since 2017, said on a July 2026 episode of the All Out with Jon Dean podcast, that given the chance to go back, he "wouldn't do that again" even with the sizable paycheck.

Johnny Galecki
Prior to starring in The Big Bang Theory as Leonard Hofstadter, Sheldon's theoretical physicist roommate who falls hard for Penny, the new girl who moved in across the hall, Johnny Galecki actually started his career on CBS in the 1987 miniseries Murder Ordained. Big Bang premiered on the same network 20 years later and eventually made Galecki one of the highest-paid actors on television, with the Roseanne alum reportedly banking over $1 million per episode by series' end.
Years after he and costar Kaley Cuoco secretly dated while playing an on-and-off couple, Galecki—who reprised his Roseanne role on The Conners—welcomed son Avery with then-girlfriend Alaina Meyer in November 2019. In 2024, he revealed he'd privately wed Morgan Galecki and that they welcomed a daughter named Oona Evelena.

Kaley Cuoco
Two years after Cuoco wrapped her three-season gig on 8 Simple Rules, the Charmed alum landed the role of aspiring actress and waitress Penny. In 2010, she served up a surprise, revealing to CBS Watch that she and Galecki privately dated for two years before ending their relationship in 2009. They remain close friends.
Though Cuoco has indicated she'd happily slip back into Penny's crop tops, her career continues to soar, with roles in the 2022 Peacock rom-com Meet Cute opposite Pete Davidson and the network's dark comedy thriller Based on a True Story. She also voices Harley Quinn for the DC Comics character's eponymous animated series and earned three Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nods for starring in and producing The Flight Attendant.
Following her split from second husband Karl Cook in September 2021, Cuoco and her now-fiancé Tom Pelphrey made their red carpet debut at the 2022 Emmy Awards. Three years after welcoming daughter Matilda in March 2023, the actors revealed they were expecting their second little girl.
As for their eldest, Cuoco is already expecting big things. "We've been through all the ups and downs," she noted to E! News of her and Pelphrey's acting careers, "and that girl is a performer. There's no way she's not going to perform."

Kunal Nayyar
Kunal Nayyar rose to fame on TBBT as astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali, becoming one of the highest-paid actors on TV, alongside Galecki and Parsons. After putting away his telescope, the British-born, India-bred actor provided a voice for Guy Diamond in the Trolls film franchise, guest starred on an episode of Melissa Rauch's Night Court series and appeared in films like Spaceman, How to Date Billy Walsh and Christmas Karma.
Nayyar has been married to model and former Miss India Neha Kapur since 2011.

Simon Helberg
Two months before premiering on The Big Bang Theory as aerospace engineer and devoted mama's boy Howard Wolowitz, Simon Helberg married actress Jocelyn Towne. In May 2012, the couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Adeinle. Two years later, the duo welcomed a son, Wilder.
In addition to parenting, Helberg has appeared in films such as Florence Foster Jenkins, Annette and Space Oddity, lent his voice to Young Sheldon. Most recently, he's appeared on AMC's 2026 dark comedy The Audacity.

Melissa Rauch
Rauch joined the cast of The Big Bang Theory in 2009 during the show's third season, as Bernadette Rostenkowski, Penny's Cheesecake Factory coworker turned successful microbiologist. Brought in as a love interest for Helberg's Howard, the pair wed during the season five finale.
When not inhabiting Bernadette's high-pitched tones, Rauch appeared on episodes of True Blood and The Office and starred in three seasons of NBC's Night Court revival, which she also executive produced. (Hence cameos from Helberg, Nayyar and Mayim Bialik.)
She's been married to writer Winston Rauch since 2007 and the couple have two children: Sadie and Brooks.

Mayim Bialik
More than a decade after she became a household name for her starring role in Blossom, which aired from 1990 to 1995, Bialik joined the cast of The Big Bang Theory on the show's season three finale. The real-life neuroscientist went on to earn four Emmy nods for her work as Nobel Prize-winning Amy Farrah Fowler, who married Sheldon in season 11.
Bialik served as the host of Jeopardy!, sharing the duties with Ken Jennings, from 2021 until 2023, and even earning an Emmy nod as Outstanding Host for a Game Show. She also made cameos on Young Sheldon, starred in and executive produced the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat and appeared in 2025 film Father Mother Sister Brother.
As for her own family ties, she has two sons—Miles and Frederick—with her ex-husband, Michael Stone.
