PITTSBURGH — Chase Curtis did his best to make sure no one knew his age when he first arrived with the Jets. Pretty soon, though, teammates found out.
Curtis is a 26-year-old rookie tight end. He was signed by the Jets after he went undrafted out of TCU in the spring. Curtis has had an interesting journey to the NFL, with two years of junior college baseball, transitioning from quarterback to wide receiver to tight end and multiple surgeries. It added up to eight years of college, six at TCU.
Curtis is older than fellow tight ends Kenyon Sadiq (21), Mason Taylor (22) and even Jeremy Ruckert, who just turned 26 and has already been in the NFL for four seasons.
“It is not as bad as I thought,” Curtis said of the teasing. “I tried to keep it quiet there for a while because I didn’t want them to know how old I was.”
