During a press conference on Tuesday, Maye discussed the matchup with the Jets:
“The Jets are coming off a win, and they’ve got some great players, so we’ve got a tough task. They’re coming here wanting to beat in division, we’re wearing whatever jerseys, and they’re gonna have something to play for.”Meanwhile, head coach Mike Vrabel said:
“It’s a quick turnaround. These guys are locked in, prepared. There’s times when I want to pull the head coaching card out, and kind of run around here, slamming everything, yelling. I really haven’t had to.”Former head coaches, player praise Drake Maye ahead of game vs. Jets
The 2024 season was mostly a write-off for Drake Maye, as the Patriots chafed under Jerod Mayo's coaching. Nevertheless, he showed flashes of potential, making the Pro Bowl as an alternate.
2025, however, has been a different story. He is flourishing under Mike Vrabel, and former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is seeing similarities to Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, as he put it on Thursday's episode of Pat McAfee's eponymous ESPN show:
Another comparison comes from former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark, who said Maye was "everything Jayden Daniels could've been this year" on First Take:
And finally, former Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden has this to say on The Quick Snap podcast with former Patriots players Brian Hoyer and David Andrews after watching the 28-23 win at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
"I was really eager to see Drake Maye play and, man, was I impressed. The guy really handled the Tampa Bay defense. The pressures -- he threw the ball hot, he audibled a few times. He handled the rain. ...His deep ball accuracy, his poise in the pocket, it made me really jealous."Kickoff for the game vs. the Jets is at 8:15 pm ET on Amazon Prime Video.
