Celtics trade proposal pairs two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo with Jayson Tatum

The Boston Celtics have had a disappointing offseason, retooling their roster following Jayson Tatum’s torn right Achilles tendon.

Amid looming financial constraints, Boston dealt Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers and Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks. Still, the team has the assets to make another franchise-altering trade.

If Giannis Antetokounmpo ultimately requests a trade, the Celtics have the necessary assets to make a serious offer. Alan Goldsher of SI.com recently compiled a mock trade for the two-time MVP that would send Jaylen Brown to Milwaukee.

Here’s Goldsher’s proposed trade:

Celtics receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo, A.J. Green

Bucks receive: Jaylen Brown, Payton Pritchard, Anfernee Simons, 2026 first-round pick, 2028 first-round pick, 2030 first-round pick

At least one additional team would be needed to make the deal financially viable, though the Celtics’ offer would make sense for Milwaukee if it decides to move on from its franchise cornerstone.

Brown would be able to step into a true No. 1 role, while the Celtics could retool around Tatum and Antetokounmpo. Losing Pritchard would sting, but younger players like Hugo Gonzalez and Baylor Scheierman would likely have the chance to earn more playing time.

Boston would also add Green to the mix, and he’d fit well within the team’s three-point-heavy system. The 25-year-old is coming off a career-best year, averaging 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.1 three-pointers and 1.5 assists across 22.7 minutes per game in 73 regular-season appearances.

Opportunities to trade for a generational talent like Antetokounmpo rarely come around. While Tatum is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2025-26 campaign, this move would signal a clear intention to get back in the mix by 2026-27.
