The Boston Celtics have been active to start the 2025 offseason.
After trading Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, the franchise cut ties with Kristaps Porzingis via a massive three-team blockbuster deal.
Boston, Atlanta, and Brooklyn are finalizing a three-team trade that sends Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick to the Hawks, Terance Mann and Atlanta's No. 22 pick to the Nets, and Georges Niang and a second-rounder to the Celtics,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday.
While Porzingis' versatility as a stretch five has been helpful to the Celtics the past two seasons, the NBA champion big man’s inability to remain healthy plagued him during his two-year stint with Boston.
This past season, Porzingis averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game in only 42 contests.
Porzingis’ playoff stats were putrid in every way imaginable, as the former New York Knicks star contributed 7.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per contest while shooting below 35% from the field and 20% from three.

Acquiring Niang and a second-round pick won’t excite the Celtics, but according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, it’s a move that will benefit the franchise moving forward.
“Trading Kristaps Porzingis now puts Boston under the second apron,” Marks reported.
“The Porzingis and Jrue Holiday trades save Boston a projected $180 million in tax penalties.”
The Celtics should feel more confident about their financial situation entering the 2025-26 season.
