Once upon a time (less than three years ago), Boston Celtics GM Brad Stevens tried to trade for Kevin Durant.
It's been reported on before by ESPN's Shams Charania, but Charania revisited the trade offer on Wednesday during a new episode of The Pat McAfee Show.
According to Charania, Stevens called the Brooklyn Nets and tried to pry away KD with an offer of Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and a first-round pick.
As buzz around Durant's next destination has begun to heat up, some are imagining how different the NBA would look if KD had ended up on the Celtics.
There's also been speculation that a Durant-to-Boston trade could be re-explored this summer by the Celtics, but Charania more or less shot down the possibility.

“There was a lot of mutual interest between Kevin Durant and the Celtics in the summer of '22 when he asked for a trade (from the Nets) and (Boston) offered Jaylen Brown … Derrick White … (and) a first-round pick,” Charania said.
“Brooklyn … said no, and they kept him, and then they ultimately traded him for a haul from Phoenix.”
“So it's just tough now, even if the Celtics had interest (in Durant this summer), even if Kevin Durant wants to go badly to the Boston Celtics now … from a cap … perspective, they would have to trade two, three significant players.”
“We're talking guys like Jrue (Holiday), Jaylen Brown, (Kristaps) Porzingis … multiple guys, just to get Kevin.”
KD joining the Celtics this summer has a near-zero chance of happening, and you can pretty much consider it zero if Boston ends up repeating as champs in June.
Regardless, the Durant sweepstakes will be entertaining to follow, with teams like the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks sure to be involved.
