Celtics linked to Michigan playmaker in draft: 'Passes like Rondo'

Are the Boston Celtics setting themselves up to draft the second coming of Rajon Rondo?

Boston owns the No. 28 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NBA draft, which will take place on June 25.

While the Celtics are obviously out of range for the draft's top prospects like Cooper Flagg and others, that doesn't mean they can't still snag a difference-maker at No. 28.

Remember: Three-time MVP Nikola Jokić was selected with the No. 41 overall pick in 2014 while a Taco Bell commercial aired on the live broadcast.

At pick No. 28 in 2025, Hardwood Houdini's Jack Simone thinks Celtics GM Brad Stevens should take a close look at Michigan Wolverines big man Danny Wolf, who impressively measured at 6'10.5" without shoes at the NBA draft combine (per ESPN's Jonathan Givony).

"Danny Wolf passes like Rondo and was a lead playmaker for Michigan, all at almost seven feet," Simone wrote.

"He dominates PnRs as a screener or ball-handler, but questions of defense and turnovers loom."

"Wolf should be toward the top of the Celtics' board."

More context on Wolf from Givony:

"Danny Wolf was one of the most unique players in college basketball, shouldering significant point guard responsibilities at 7-feet, Igniting fast breaks, creating out of PNR, passing and finishing skillfully with both hands, his skill-level and creativity stood out all season."

Wolf looks like an intriguing prospect for Boston, but will he fall to No. 28? Some analysts, Givony included, believe Wolf could get scooped up in the top 20.

For what it's worth, Boston also holds the No. 32 pick in the draft (the second round of the draft will happen on June 26).
