Celtics' Jayson Tatum lands in controversial 'Top 100 NBA Players of All Time' list

3 hours ago 1

Jayson Tatum is one of the best players in the league when fully healthy, and has had to miss minimal time in his career until his recent Achilles tear in the playoffs.

He has played in 70+ games in six of eight seasons in the league, and played in 64 or more in all eight. He has a knack for staying on the court -- which has led to an impressive résume at a young age.

Recently, Bleacher Report released its top 100 players of all time, and put Tatum in a surprisingly low spot at 93.

“Jayson Tatum’s inclusion may be seen as a rush to coronation. He isn’t even halfway through his career.  Then again, that’s kind of the point,” Bleacher Report's staff members said Monday. “He has been a positive-impact player on both sides of the ball since entering the league, mostly for a title contender, and already was the best player on a championship team. That is all before turning 28.”

Also mentioned is his streak of first-team All-NBA selections, and how elite of a group he is in, considering he has achieved this at such a young age.

Interestingly enough, there are a few players ranked above him that are shocking.

One that immediately jumps out is Jimmy Butler, ranked exactly ten spots ahead of Tatum at No. 83 .

Sure, a fierce competitor who can take his team to further lengths than expected, but has arguably never been as big of a threat as Tatum has on the offensive end.

There are a couple more ringless active players listed ahead of Tatum, like Joel Embiid and Damian Lillard, which is surprising. Usually, the media values rings highly, but possibly because of Tatum’s youth, they were not able to give him the advantage.

At the end of the day, Tatum's name being mentioned on this list is still wildly impressive. Being involved in this discussion at 27 years old is remarkable; however, the disrespect comes from some of the players ranked ahead of him.
