The Boston Celtics have done it. They traded one of their franchise superstars, Jaylen Brown, to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first round picks, and two second round picks.
George will take Brown’s spot in the starting five, and will fit in well into their playstyle. However, the cons almost certainly outweigh the pros of having the 35-year-old nine-time All-Star on your roster.
The pros of George

George fits Mazzulla Ball to a T. The Celtics love to chuck threes, and George is a specialist at that. Just last season, he shot almost 40% from deep, and for his career, he has shot 38% from the arc.
Combine that with the new acquisition of Mitchell Robinson, who is arguably one of the best offensive rebounders in the game, and the Celtics can shoot more threes than ever before.
However, that’s honestly the end of the pros.
The cons of George

First things first, George is 35 years old. He’s been on the decline for a while now, and his past seasons show it. He’s injury prone, as in his past seven seasons, he’s only had one year with more than 70 games played.
The Celtics are also losing 11 PPG by adding him and losing Brown, as George only averaged 17.3 PPG last season. Finally, he basically has the same contract as Brown for the next two seasons, in which Boston only saves around $4 million per season.
This gives Boston around $10 million in cap room to work with this offseason for now, as they are hard-capped to the first apron by signing Mitchell Robinson.
Potential moves from here on out

If Boston’s GM Brad Stevens is as smart as people think he is, he’ll find a way to reroute George somewhere else for more assets, or a younger player. George is just too fragile to make the Celtics better than they were with Brown.
Getting a guy like Trey Murphy should be at the forefront of their minds. If they could somehow flip George for him, all the better. Hopefully, Stevens has a plan; otherwise, the whole city of Boston will begin to turn on him, and the new ownership.
