The Boston Celtics are looking to cut costs, and they could help a team in need.

Over the past few weeks, the Celtics have had a chance to assess their situation after getting an early start to their offseason. While Boston’s disappointment in a year it hoped to win back-to-back championships is still fresh, Brad Stevens and company have no choice but to quickly move on.

While Jayson Tatum’s torn Achilles will leave him sidelined for a large portion of next season, his eventual return could push the Celtics into title contention in a weak Eastern Conference. However, the Celtics have some team-building issues to work through, notably their financial situation.

With Boston expected to cut costs this offseason, Kristaps Porzingis is among the likeliest names to be on the way out. Although he helped them win a championship, Porzingis’ time with the Celtics was overall underwhelming because of injuries, and a fresh start could benefit both sides.

New Orleans is a potential destination for Porzingis, according to an NBA executive. While finding a deal that works out for both sides could be tricky, the fit of Porzingis in New Orleans could be nice.

Considering Porzingis’ shot-blocking ability and offensive versatility, he could be the Pelicans’ perfect frontcourt partner alongside Zion Williamson if he is on the court next season. Meanwhile, his game could open things up for Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum and give them driving lanes. While Porzingis might not be a perfect fit anywhere at this stage of his career, his skillset allows him to be a guy many teams could talk themselves into.
