Celtics 'could reunite' with Kristaps Porzingis under one condition

The Boston Celtics moved on from Kristaps Porzingis during the earlier stages of the offseason in a deal with the Atlanta Hawks. For Brad Stevens and the Celtics, it made perfect sense to trade Porzingis, given where the team stands right now.

Unfortunately, with Jayson Tatum's injury and the second apron problems the Celtics are facing, Porzingis didn't have a place on the team.

However, NESN's Colin Keane believes that it could be a short-lived situation. He recently wrote an article suggesting that the Celtics could bring back Porzingis in the near future, adding that if he gets hurt again, which, unfortunately, past indicator suggests he likely will, there could be a chance the Celtics have an opportunity to sign him on a cheap deal.

“Porzingis is scheduled to hit free agency next summer, which is notable given Stevens’ habit of re-acquiring former Celtics centers. Stevens’ first big move when he shifted from head coach to GM duties in 2021 was to trade for Al Horford, who played for the Celtics from 2016 to 2019 but had since spent stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder...

“Not to wish anything but full health upon Porzingis, but if he were to suffer through another injury-ravaged season in 2025-26 and miss significant time, his list of suitors in free agency would shrink, driving down the cost to sign him... In that case, a Celtics return would be plausible,” he noted.

Bringing Porzingis back, as Keane touched on, would only be wise if they could get him for a cheap price.

Even if he deals with some injuries, it's likely that other teams around the league would be willing to still offer him a decent deal.

However, nothing can be counted out given what Stevens has done in the past.
