In the third quarter, Donovan Mitchell was a superstar.
In the fourth quarter, he got hurt.
Mitchell left the Cleveland Cavaliers’ season opener at the New York Knicks midway through the fourth.
He was going for a loose ball and collided with Miles McBride.
McBride was called for a foul, and Mitchell hit the ground hard.

The Cavs’ star laid on his back, grabbing at his left leg.
Mitchell stayed in the game for a moment, but then he signaled to the bench for a substitution.
When Mitchell came out of the game, trainers were working on his left leg as Mitchell laid on the ground on the baseline.
The Cavs trailed by eight when Mitchell left.

He had done everything he could in the third quarter, when he scored 10 points in less than two minutes out of halftime and then ended the quarter with 21.
Mitchell did come back into the game with less than four minutes left.
The Cavs already have Darius Garland hurt, so it’s not an ideal situation if Mitchell is injured even a little bit, but at least his return to the game was a good sign.
