Cavaliers reportedly interested in signing $63M ex-Nuggets champion after Peyton Watson deal

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been very active in free agency over the last week after remaining relatively quiet for the past couple of months. However, they had been in hot pursuit of Peyton Watson for several weeks.

Watson is a 23-year-old NBA champion with tremendous athleticism, and Cleveland was finally able to acquire him in a five-team deal.

“Denver is trading Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers and will receive Cleveland's 2031 first-round pick and a 2032 second-rounder from the Sacramento Kings. The Cavs are sending Max Strus to the Los Angeles Clippers, which gives them the flexibility to sign Watson to a four-year, $88 million contract. There were multiple other minor moves involved to complete the deal, including the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets," Bleacher Report’s Joseph Rucker wrote.

Not even a day after landing Watson, Cleveland was able to re-sign James Harden after he opted out of his contract, allowing the team to continue adding to its roster.

“Free agent James Harden agreed to a new three-year, $97 million contract to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, with a player option for 2028-29 and a trade kicker, agents Mike Silverman, Troy Payne and Brandon Grier of Equity Sports told ESPN on Thursday,” ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote.

The Cavaliers could still fill another roster spot or two with what they have remaining. It appears they are interested in another former Denver Nuggets NBA champion in veteran Bruce Brown.

“I heard veteran free agent Bruce Brown mentioned in connection to the Cavs,” Terry Pluto said during a recent appearance on the Scarlet To The Land podcast.

Brown would be a solid bench addition for Cleveland, as he has spent most of his career embracing a role-player role. That is exactly what the Cavaliers need right now: someone who is willing to accept his role and contribute wherever needed.

Brown has made $63 million throughout his career so far. After remaining relatively quiet for much of the offseason, the Cavaliers are finally starting to make some moves. They are hoping to make a strong push for the Eastern Conference title this season after falling to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals.
