Cavaliers linked to LeBron James-influenced trade for $7.9 million Lakers project

The Cleveland Cavaliers appear in good shape to land LeBron James this summer.

According to the Stein Line’s Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the Cavaliers look like the frontrunners to land a commitment from the four-time NBA champion forward when it’s all said and done.

“There is growing belief among teams competing for James’ signature that the lure of the 41-year-old playing out his final chapter with the team that drafted him — compared to, say, early favorites Golden State (Warriors) — is looking more and more like the scenario to beat,” Stein and Fischer wrote Saturday.

If the Cavaliers prove to be James’ next destination, Stein and Fischer believe that the franchise could make a James-influenced trade for a 21-year-old Los Angeles Lakers project to appease their new superstar.

“They want to make sure that they have open roster spots to be able to trade for the Lakers’ Bronny James in the event that they are able to welcome Dad back as a free agent signee,” the two insiders noted.

The prospect of Bronny being traded to the Cavaliers to join his father in the final stage of his NBA career isn’t hard to process. LeBron doesn’t just want to help Cleveland, the organization that selected him with the  No. 1 overall pick in 2003, win another championship before retiring; he also wants to continue competing alongside his developing son.

Of course, Bronny likely wouldn’t have a significant role on the 2026-27 Cavaliers squad, given that he’s still working toward becoming a consistent rotational player.

However, continuing his partnership with his future Hall of Fame father/role model, regardless of his role, might soften the blow a bit.
