The St. Louis Cardinals are off to a slow start this season. Even after sweeping a doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, they are 14-17 and sit in fourth place in the National League Central.
If they can't turn their season around, it is very likely that they will be sellers at the trade deadline and move some pieces. They have several players on expiring contracts that could be moved.
One of them is starting pitcher Erick Fedde, who is 1-3 with a 4.68 ERA but has been solid in all but two starts this year.
The New York Yankees are a team in need of rotation help. Christopher Hennessy of Clutch Points proposed the idea of St. Louis sending Fedde to the Bronx.
"The Cardinals should be trading Fedde. The Yankees are going to need a pitcher. Even with the failed Nolan Arenado trade looming over these front offices, this deal should get done," Hennessy wrote.

Aside from rough starts against the Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers, Fedde is off to a decent start. Last season, he was 9-9 with a 3.30 ERA in 31 starts with St. Louis and the Chicago White Sox. He also pitched 177.1 innings.
If he can fix things after a rough start, he should bring back a solid prospect or two from the Yankees if this trade ultimately comes to pass.
The Cardinals would also clear a spot in their rotation for right-hander Michael McGreevy, their first-round pick in 2021. St. Louis had plans to reset their roster and transition in 2025 rather than contend. This could help them do just that.
We'll see where things stand at the deadline.
