The first member of this historic St. Louis Cardinals list makes sense.
Bob Gibson had a four-strikeout inning back in 1966.
The second member came Thursday and was much more unlikely: Steven Matz.
MLB's Sarah Langs shared that the pairing forms the only two guys in Cardinals history to achieve such a rare feat.
As you'll know, baseball innings only have three outs. But if a player reaches first on a dropped third strike, it counts as a strikeout without actually being an out in the inning.

The lefty Matz came on in relief in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader. He didn't even complete two full innings, but the one he completed was incredible and eventful.
Matz came on to pitch the bottom of the sixth.
He struck out Lenyn Sosa, who reached first on a wild pitch.
Austin Slater was called out on strikes looking for the second strikeout but just first out of the inning.

Then Michael Taylor launched a two-run homer for a 4-2 lead.
Matz went on to strike out Mike Tauchman and Chase Meidroth to end the frame.
So not only did Matz strike out four guys in an inning, he also allowed a two-run bomb in the same frame.
He'll never have another inning like that in his career, that's for sure.
