Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was considered an underrated pick by many fantasy football managers this season, with expectations that he would contribute significant points. So far, though, his production has been uneven, drawing some criticism. Despite this, Harrison brushed off concerns about his target numbers following the Cardinals' 2-0 start.
On Wednesday, when asked about the calls for him to get more targets, Harrison simply responded, "That's a silly conversation. We're 2-0."
This isn't what fantasy football managers want to hear. What they really want is for Harrison to put up better stats. For many, the team's wins don't erase worries about his individual production.
So far this season, Harrison has recorded seven receptions for 98 yards and one touchdown over two games, averaging 14.0 yards per catch.
Before the season kicked off, some analysts projected him for around 79 receptions, 1,088 yards and seven touchdowns.
If Harrison's comment wasn't troubling enough, what his quarterback, Kyler Murray, told reporters on Wednesday could be even more disheartening for fantasy football managers.
"I wish all those guys could get 10 targets," Murray said. "There's only one ball. … Some days he will get 10 (targets) some days he might get three (targets), you never know."
I know exactly what fantasy football gurus are thinking right now. Let's just hope Marvin Harrison Jr. starts lighting up the stat sheet as soon as possible.
