Jacoby Brissett is underpaid.
That's the basic point that he's making by not being a full attendee this offseason with the Arizona Cardinals.
Frankly, whether he wins the starting job or not, he's probably underpaid. But as a guy in competition for the QB1 role, he definitely deserves a better contract.
ESPN's Dan Graziano made the point in a new article on Tuesday that even Denver Broncos backup Jarrett Stidham makes more than Brissett.
"It's hard to blame Brissett for wanting a raise,' Graziano writes. "He's slated to make $4.88 million this year. Only $1.5 million of that is guaranteed, and the most he can make if he hits all of his incentives is $7.39 million. Broncos backup Jarrett Stidham makes more. Minshew has more guaranteed money in 2026. If Brissett's going to be the starter, he deserves at least low-level starter money. But the Cardinals have a new coach in Mike LaFleur, who wasn't there when Brissett stepped in for an injured Murray and put up 3,366 passing yards and 23 touchdowns."

The problem for the Cardinals is really that they can't expect Brissett to be the long-term answer. So do they have any incentive to give him the raise he deserves?
They've also got Gardner Minshew, along with third-round rookie Carson Beck. That's enough to get them through a clear rebuilding season.
And after this year, the Cardinals are almost certainly going to draft a first-round QB if they have any chance to do so.
That means that Brissett has a great case, and the Cardinals have a great reason to hold firm. Neither side really has a great motivation to give in.
It seems likely they'll eventually reach a compromise, but it's definitely an odd quarterback situation in the desert.
