The Vancouver Canucks have a head coach, which is good news.
They hired Manny Malhotra, who was previously the bench boss of their AHL affiliate.
The hire doesn't come without complication, though. That's because Manny's son, Caleb, is in this year's NHL Draft class.
A lot of mocks have put Caleb going to the No. 3 overall pick, which is Vancouver.

Would the Canucks draft their new head coach's son? It's something the hockey world will watch with plenty of intrigue.
"That would be a great storyline," former NHL goalie Carter Hutton said on Daily Faceoff Live. "It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a player play for his dad. But that being said, sometimes it would be less, like easier, to get away from it. You know, I don’t know if if you’re sitting in that dressing room with Caleb and knowing his dad as the coach, it could be kind of a bit that’s a little bit undermining to a team that’s rebuilding in that sense."
It would simply be hard for the head coach, Manny, to escape any kind of concerns about his son's actions or playing time or performance. Would he be harder on Caleb than everyone? Would he take it easy?
There's no way to know, and that definitely increases the risk factor.
"I think you can kind of see both sides of it," Tyler Yaremchuk said on Daily Faceoff Live. "I honestly think it doesn’t change the equation. If you think he is the best player available when you step up to the podium, you take him."
MORE: Canucks make Gavin McKenna decision that Maple Leafs, Sharks don't make
The Canucks had the best lottery odds but fell to the third pick. It means they likely won't have a chance at Gavin McKenna.
Instead, it sets up this confusing Malhotra situation, and the Canucks are going to have to make a concrete decision about what they decide to do.
