Canucks have path to drafting both Ruck brothers to recreate Sedin magic

1 hour ago 3

The Vancouver Canucks made magic with the two Sedin brothers in their organization.

Maybe, just maybe, they'd have a chance to do it all over again with the Ruck brothers, Liam and Markus.

The pair is part of the 2026 NHL Draft class, and the Canucks are one of four teams that has the right draft assets to pursue both, according to Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin.

Neither is likely to be a top-10 pick, which means that trades might have to be involved to pull it off.

"The third overall pick is obviously way too early to use on a Ruck," Larkin writes. "But Vancouver holds pick 24 and, just as importantly, picks 33 and 41 of the second. If one Ruck fell to 24th, could they use the two seconds to move up and grab the next one? They could also split the two second rounders and use No. 41 to trade up and move higher than the No. 24 pick to snag Liam and then hope Markus is there at 33."

There's a decent chance that neither of the Ruck brothers make it to 33, so to pull this off, the Canucks could definitely require some maneuvering.

But hey -- if you told them they'd get careers like the Sedin brothers, they'd certainly go for it.

There's something to be said for keeping brothers together and allowing their off- and on-ice chemistry to flourish.

Markus went for 21 goals and 87 assists this season in the Western Hockey League for the Medicine Hat Tigers. Liam had 45 goals and 59 assists.

Together, they clearly know how to put the puck in the net.

Why split them up? If the Canucks could pull off this double, it could be worthwhile.
